How did you find the courses overall?
I find this course very interesting, fun, helpful and use full. Even though there were some part of the course that I didn’t really complete it but I believe I will be able to learn from my mates who have complete this course but overall I really liked this course and to me it was a really great opportunity with great experience.

What were your favourite elements to the course? Why?
My favourite part is POSTING on my blog. I like to post my favourite photos and comments which are base mostly on facts from Tonga. It’s really fun and some information can be helpful and provide ideas for young students and so as my mates.
Including mixing photos, making videos, doing animotto and slide shares.
Describe how you will be applying something you’ve learnt on the course and in what situation.
Well I can share the skills and knowledge that I have gained from the course with my friends and also able provide facts and vital information that can or will be useful for people’s information on Impacts of people on Vegetation in Tonga and ways to minimize and sustained Flora in Tonga. As it is a real situation nowadays in Tonga how Trees are being destroyed by locals in Tonga. Through this I can be able to let my friends know how to create their own blog and reach out to a lot of people promoting any area or subjects they love to talk, write, share, discuss or think about…something really great!!! and important for locals to be aware of and know about!

Tongan Flowers

Trees are so true important!!! Flowering plants make our world beatiful and let human enjoy the beauty and passion that Nature brings ..through Flowers.

Tonga's National Flowering Plant- HEILALA.

For cultural reason!! This is Tonga's national Flower. HEILALA.

In special occassions in Tonga, Heilala is very much sacred and used for necklaces for special people in any occasion. It is Tonga's only endemic plant. It is hardly to grow because if you plant a seed it will take months before it grows. It must be planted in moist area. Heilala therefore is hardly harmed by locals due to its cultural importance and difficult to grow.

LETS DO IT!!!!!

Locals replanting mangroves.

Nowadays in Tonga there are actual work is done to replace trees that had been cut down severly , especially coastal vegetation such as Mangroves.

Mangroves are very vital coastal plants for Tonga and other Pacific Islands. Mangroves avoid land degradation, and protect the islands from eroding and from natural desasters. It is therefore important to replant more due to heavy deforestation done by few locals in Tonga currently.

Villages now hand in hand replant more mangroves , build fences around mangrove areas in Tonga and also band people from unwisely use mangroves at most coastal areas.

Ministry of Environment of Tonga actually run a program of replanting more mangroves on coastal areas that were cleared which become a habitat for mosqitoes and as well as pigs and other animals

Vegetation and its importance.

Imagine a world without trees?.. do you ever think of trees often? or you maybe you only think of flowers when you wana see you girlfriend? or for your wedding? or need timber to build yourself a house or create other products for you own benefit?..

It is very important that we recognise how plants become a vital friend for us human esspecially everyday in our daily activities, life styles and to be wisely used and sustained for future generations.

Flora is Vital...

Plants keeps human being alive each day by providing cool comforting breeze of oxygen gas. Without trees there will be less acess of human and animals for fresh air and this will lead to other probems.

Coastal vegetation strongly act as soldiers protecting the land from erosion as it will save more space for settlement. It will minimize the harmful effect of waves and wind on islands as it witnessed in some part of Tonga.

There are plants with cultural importance such as pandanus in Tonga.Pandanus plant is now hardly found in the main island of Tongatapu. They are widely spread in most uninhabit and not crowded islands of Tonga. This plant is important for making a''taovala" which all Tongans are recognised with Taovala on their waist which means of showing respect to others.

Trees also provide habitats for alot of organisms. It is important not to alter these habitats. It is witnessed in Tonga how organisms are affected when an area had been cleared for settlements and farming. Birds that used to live around these trees migrated to other areas, bugs ,earthworms and other organisms died while other organisms find new habitats

Trees have more and more useful roles in the environment and its important that we, youth of today think about how we are treating plants at home, school, town or where ever we are......BE a Friend to Trees!!! ..for You will face all consequences ,so as your future generations!!!
